I think I was still a baby when I had my first espresso—life was never the same (or so I’d like to believe, but hey, it makes for a good story).
During my family’s many travels, I’ve made it a habit to seek out independently owned coffee houses. They fuel my soul, energize my blood, and bring me endless joy.
More than a billion people around the world drink coffee every day. It’s one of the most traded commodities on the planet. And yet, many of the farmers who grow this beloved crop still struggle to earn a reliable living.
To change this, we need to understand the true cost of producing coffee sustainably — and ensure that farmers receive fair pay for their work.
Today, more than 870,000 coffee farmers are part of the Fairtrade system, representing nearly half of all coffee farmers and workers worldwide. Their participation shows the scale of the challenge, but also the power of choosing Fairtrade.
