We find ourselves at Highliner Coffee, AKA “The place to be,” in Sitka, Alaska, on a grey Sunday morning. Humming doesn’t do it justice, as a long line of tourists dressed for the 49th state’s rugged weather snakes past our table. With great food and coffee menus, quick service, and a local vibe, the Highliner easily overcomes its lack of a street presence to become a new coffee favorite. Recommended by both our taxi driver and the night receptionist at our hotel, we had to try it. And we loved it! Too bad the commute is 7 hours by plane.
